Get a taste of Chinese traditional weddings
Ninety-nine newly-wed couples, including both Chinese and foreigners, attended an all-Chinese style group wedding on Saturday in Youyang, Chongqing to celebrate their big moment.
The ceremony is a mix of wedding traditions from different dynasties. The newly-weds could choose to wear red wedding gowns from Han, Tang, and Ming dynasty, while experiencing the traditional rituals passed on from Zhou dynasty.
The newly-weds washed their hands in a basin, as a way to show respect to their marriage. Then they were asked to sit facing towards each other, men on the east side and women on the west (as East and West stand respectively for male and female), and exchange their liquors to express their will to share each other’s happiness and sorrow.
It’s the second year a traditional group wedding was held at the site. According to the organizer, they arranged this event to remind young people of the solemnity of marriage.
